Like their American counterparts, Spanish Galgos don't tolerate cold particularly well, but most of them spend winters outside — shelters in Spain lack both the facilities and the space to house all of the dogs in their care indoors. To make those hounds more comfortable, GRIN is working with Colorado Greyhound Adoption and Tommy Coats to help provide them with fleece coats to wear for the winter.
This effort is being facilitated by Judy Greenfield — one of GRIN's original founders & board members — who currently volunteers both for GRIN and CGA. She's collecting gently used fleece jackets, bathrobes, blankets, and other articles of clothing to be made into coats for the Galgos. The folks at Tommy Coats in New Mexico will then transform that donated fleece into coats, and those coats will ultimately find their way to Spain.
Judy will be going to New Mexico at the end of the month, and we're on a quest to fill up every spare inch of her car with fleece for the Galgos! If you have anything you'd like to donate, please contact Judy directly at judysgreenfield@gmail.com.
