Amistad

AmistadAmistad lived at Scooby with his brother and another pair of galgo brothers.  He, his brother, and mother were discovered by Scooby rescuers after being abandoned in a warehouse with no food or water.  He was the most shy of the bunch - and so badly needed a person of his own.  Abby brought Amistad to the US where he was fostered for a short time in Denver, then Utah, and was finally transported to Oceanside, CA where he met his new family (Telma and Mike Shaw).  It was love at first sight for all of them, and Amistad is happy and well loved.  His brother, Ramon, arrived in the US in February 2007.  His mother, Ramona, is a permanent resident of Scooby and is one of the "Courtyard Gang".

Bonita

BonitaBonita is a playful and bright wirehair galgo who had been living at Scooby for quite some time.  It was her boisterous nature that made Abby notice her.  She was adopted by a wonderful family in Austin, Texas.

Aluna

AlunaAluna is a young wirehair galgo who went through a rather rough ordeal after arriving in the US.  She developed the unsavory habit of fence-jumping (galgos are extremely agile!) and had to be moved from her first foster home.  She went through a series of foster homes over the next couple of months, until finally making her way to California and into the loving arms of Mike and Telma Shaw.  She now lives with galgo brother Amistad and three greyhounds.  Aluna is shy around strangers, but is a regular whirling dirvish when in the comforts of her loving home!

Isabella

IsabellaIsabella is a tiny galgo/podenco mix known as Tiddleywink while at Scooby.  Her positively petite 40 pound frame is deceptive, though, as she lived in a large paddock at Scooby with more than a dozen other dogs - many greater than twice her size, and one weighing in at more than 130 pounds.  Isabella was adopted by a loving family in Washington.  Isabella is a bit on the shy side around humans - particularly men, but once she decides to trust you she will be your friend for life!

Madeleine

Madeleine Little is known about beautiful Madeleine prior to her arrival at Scooby. She was pointed out to Abby during her October visit at Scooby and Abby just knew she had to come back with her. Her mom describes her tail as a metronome - constantly wagging. She is a sweet and delightful little girl!

Kona

Kona UPDATE! Kona has found his forever home! An active setting would be best and Kona craves attention from both his human and canine companions. He currently lives with a cat and is cat-safe. Kona is a very sweet and charming boy, slightly shy at first but warms up quickly. If you are interested in adopting Kona, please email christie@galgorescue.org. Kona is currently living in Colorado.

Kona's history: Kona was found with his mother hidden in a hole in the ground that had been covered with a board, a common method gypsies use to "secure" their dogs. Kona was very bonded to his mother (having been with her long after weaning), and still seeks the comfort of female galgos. His mother, Christiane (now Maggie) came to the United States in April 2007.

MoMo (aka Marron)

MoMo (aka Marron)Marron, now known as MoMo, was found wandering the streets of Salamenca, Spain with his brother Blanco when they were just a couple months old. The people of Scooby rescued the pair and took them to the shelter. In October they made the journey across the ocean (with their "foster" brother Rio) in a crate together. MoMo, a darling and sweet boy, is currently living in a loving home with a veterinary nurse in Northern Colorado.

Noodles (aka Quique)

Noodles (aka Quique)Noodles is a very special boy with an incredible story. In January 2005, Scooby received an emergency call - barking could be heard coming from a deep well! Scooby enlisted the help of the local fire/rescue team and extracted five dogs from the bottom of the well where they had been dumped and left to die by their former owner. Scooby pursued the case in court and in the end, the former owners were punished - a landmark case for Scooby and Spain, and a huge step for Noodles - he was now free to go to a home!

Noodles came to the US in June 2005 as part of the "24 Paws Across the Ocean" rescue mission. The sweet wirehaired boy was adopted by a loving family and now enjoys the good life in Colorado!
