Fiesta de los Galgos 2010 Was a Success

G.R.I.N. at Fiesta de los Galgos 2010The Fiesta de los Galgos in Escondido California held on Sept. 19, 2010 was a success.  The annual Greyhound Connection Picnic and Annual Reunion www.greyhoundconnection.org raised funds for the ex-racers here in California that need homes as well as the G.R.I.N. booth that participated in the event. We are happy to announce that with the funds raised at this event another galgo named Romeo has found his ticket to freedom as of today!  Please see the plea from Tina Solera of Murcia Spain who is now collaborating with Silvia Bordetas Gil to help a handful of galgos that were set to be destroyed or returned to the hunters.

Ruso is one of the three rescued by Tina and Silvia and today is having his surgery to repair his broken hip thanks to all our donors and supporters.

Now he and Romeo and little Agustin the Podenco with the broken leg have a brighter future. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Fiesta or Fete de los Galgos France, Spain, USA

Sponsor Lisa's Parachute Jump for 112carlotagalgos

Regular readers will know that, for the past 3 years at the beginning of December, Charl has organized a Fiesta des Galgos in Malaga, where she lives. She's just formed her own association 112carlotagalgos and from 12th -19th September, Fiesta des Galgos goes International!

It commences with Lisa's 5,000ft parachute jump on 12th September, which is the same day as my own Fete des Galgos at my home in France. My event is a Fun Dog Show, plus Craft Fair, Have A Go Archery and display of classic and interesting cars and bikes. The following weekend on 19th September, GRIN in the US are holding a BIG galgo picnic.

We're all very excited about this opportunity to raise even more awareness about the plight of the galgos in Spain - hopefully next year we can persuade galgo associations in other countries to join in the week.

Lisa and Charl desperately need people to sponsor Lisa - personally, I hate flying, never mind jumping out of an airplane at 5,000 ft! Good on you, Lisa! To sponsor Lisa, donate by Paypal to comdelrio@hotmail.com

On a negative note, Kirstene of Virgin Vie has just notified Charl that she is pulling out of doing a parachute jump, and not because of illness. Bit late in the day, when I understand people have been sponsoring her.

Update: Sofie Looks So Beautiful

Sofie looks so beautiful it brings tears to our eyes.It has been four months since we first saw the images of Sofie in the streets of Badajoz with her jaw hanging due to an act of cruelty.  After four months of recuperation, yesterday the rods that kept her jaw intact were removed!  Sofie looks so beautiful it brings tears to our eyes.

We thank the fabulous Vets of Clinica Veterinaria Blasco Ibanez in Valencia and to Silvia Bordetas Gil who coordinated the whole effort and to all the people involved in her rescue. New mom Wally Lacey awaits the moment she meets her girl in Valencia to bring her home.  October 5th is not to far off Sofie, hang in there!

Mary the Podenquita Recipient of Lolys Fund for September 2010

Mary the Podenquita Recipient of Loly's Fund for September 2010112 Carlota Galgos has received a donation from GRIN's Loly's fund to help in the vetting and boarding of this baby Podenco named Mary and another needy galga named Dana as well.

These pictures were taken of Mary when she was found wandering in front of a petrol station where Char was filling up.  She was filled with thorns and ticks and scared to death.  Char caught her with some tasty mortadella meat and rescued her from the bleak future if she had been left there.

She is now in need of vetting and ongoing boarding until a home is found.  If anyone is interested in Mary, she is in Malaga and you can reach us if you want more information on baby Mary or contact  comdelrio@hotmail.com.

Thank You
