Galgo Rescue International Network

January Transport from Murcia to California!

G.R.I.N. is happy to announce that arrangements have been made with Tina Solerna of Galgos del Sol and Char del Rio of 112carlotagalgos to bring these two little beauties to the U.S. January 2012. Thanks to Char who will make the journey with the girls they now have a life of love and care forever. Adopters Darla and Stephanie of California are anxiously awaiting the two. Telma and Mike Shaw along with the adopters, will be meeting the girls at the San Diego airport to welcome them all to the U.S. We are so happy that their lives were saved from the pain of abuse and abandonement. Zoe was featured on a recent GRIN article as the Mamma Galga with Pups and Luna the little Podenca pup was recently rescued from some cruel people. She had her eye gouged out. She is better now but is still fighting the trauma and is fearful of being outside of the foster home for good reason. She is making progress each day in Tinas care. Thank you Tina and Char for helping these two into their forever home together!

  1. Well done to Tina Solera and Gill Youkee for rescuing these dogs. I know how hard she/they have worked to both rescue them and raise funds to get them sorted at the vets and now Tina fosters them in her home. She has gone well beyond the call of duty for these dogs. On a personal note I know how hard she has worked. Well done Galgos del Sol, you are awsome! Thank you GRIN for taking them over to the USA.

  2. I am also sat here with Simon and Luna herself. And of course Tina from Galgos del Sol who rescued the dogs. I held the fought at home whilst Tina was out starting 7am and sometimes finishing 10pm whilst trying to catch Zoe alongside Gill who helped her and supported her. Whilst trying to rescue Zoe they managed to break a farmers water pipe late at night and flooded his potato field. It wasn’t funny at the time but I can tell you there were tears afterwards where they couldn’t stop laughing. They did confess to the farmer. They were on a mission to catch Zoe and her 5 pups. We didn’t see her all week. No-one could believe their dedication. I am proud of Tina and what she has done at GdS and please rest assured we will look after Luna and Zoe until we take them to the airport at Madrid. Thanks GRIN for helping Tina find these dogs lovely homes and for making it happen. Must go because my next shift with Luna is in about 3 hrs so must get some sleep. She is lovely. Good night!

  3. Now im blushing. It was a pleasure to rescue them. Thanks G.R.I.N!

  4. Not sure where my comment went but here I am also with Tina, Simon and the lovely Luna. I must tell you that when Tina and Gill were out catching Zoe they accidently broke a farmers water pipe causing a flood on his potato field. Not funny at the time but they did confess and offered to pay all damages. luckily no harm done said the farmer. On arrival home there was tears of laughter by them both. Gill laughing at Tina’s face on breaking the pipe and her panic running around like a headless chicken. That night they didnt catch her but it lifted their spirits and luckily the farmer repaired everything at no cost. At 8am the next morning I got a call to say they caught her and the whole family was safe. I am very proud. We will look after Luna and Zoe as if they were our own.

  5. You are all stars!! Tina you get into some trouble don’t you! hehehe
We are awaiting the days to welcome these two to the US!

    • Yes Telma, some people are warned about coming out with me on rescue missions, somthing always happens but I think thats why the volunteers love coming, its serious but we have fun also. Luna had another good night where she woke us up to let us know she needed the loo. She went outside again which is great. She is very clever. Having a puppy in the house is almost like having a newborn child, its shift work thru the nights. I will miss Zoe and Luna but I know they have great homes so i’m happy!

  6. A huge Thank You to GRIN for giving these wonderful dogs a loving home.I hope Luna and Zoe will pave the way for more dogs to find homes in California. However,I have 2 comments to make:
Firstly,no matter what degree of cruelty or neglect Galgos face in Spain,I have yet to come across one that is aggressive.Understandably, they may be shy of humans initially and who can blame them after what they went through but what really amazes me is that despite all this trauma, these galgos give unconditional love and affection.I volunteer with GDS and offer animal healing (EFT) and I can vouch for these loving, affectionate and loyal dogs.

Secondly,to rescue a galgo ( especially in a field) requires not only dedication but time- lots of it.I know that Tina spends hours and hours waiting patiently in all weather and in all locations (open fields/ditches/drains/motorways)gently coaxing these frightened and abused dogs to trust humans again. Such is my admiration for her commitment to rescuing galgos that Tina was a finalist in the Pride of Spain Awards recently in recognition of her work.

If only we could have more Tina’s !

    • Thanks Jennifer but really I get the pleasure, these galgos are amazing. Thanks for helping me the other night. Whilst Jennifer and I were rushing around with Lobo, Brad, Juani, Jordan amongst other things I got a bit stressed, so Jennifer ended up tapping and using her EFT skills on me, not the the dogs!!! It was supposed to be the other way around. GDS has some wonderful volunteers. I love having them on the frontline with me!

  7. Just want to add GDS could not do the work we do without people like GRIN on the other side helping us home the dogs. If we couldnt keep moving them on into homes then it wouldn’t work and there is not enough homes in Spain for this breed, so support from the USA, Belgium etc is what makes all this happen. We are all just a big team, different cogs making it all go round! We all do our bit in turn from the rescues, to the transport, to the homing! No-one can do it all alone!

  8. Gill Youkee /

Lovely Zoe and her puppies, what would have happened to them if GdS hadn’t got involved. Well done to Tina Solera/Gds who rescued Zoe and who has rescued and rehomed over 100 galgos/podencos in a year.

I am proud to be involved in Gds and as Tina commented, “something always happens when out on a rescue mission”. I have experienced quite a few moments of madness, but it makes it worthwhile.

Thank you GRIN for getting Zoe and Luna to America. It would have been extra special if a GdS volunteer could have gone with them just to witness the moment of arrival in their forever homes.

Zoe, you were hard to catch but there was no way GdS were
going to give up on you. Good luck on your journey and I am so pleased we caught you so you can bring love and happiness into the lives of your new family.

    • Hey Gill, I miss you so much, rescue’s just are not the same without you. Look forward to you coming back in Jan and we can go for Zoe’s boyfriend ;) he is still out there UNCAUGHT the cheeky monkey. Antonio went back for him but no luck! So need the A team here hehehe! We will take Zoe and Luna to the airport so we will say goodbye there then we will have the day in Madrid, it will be fun, will go to Warner Bros if its open in Jan. Thanks again Gill and dont forget yr wellies when yr back. Those fields are getting muddier and thankfully the water pipes are sinking lower into the ground so we cant break anymore! GULP!

      • Gill Youkee /

Hi Tina, very pleased that you will be with Zoe and Luna when they set off on their trip to the USA. Give Zoe a big cuddle and kiss from me and enjoy your day in Madrid.
I will pack a “monkey wrench” as well as my wellies just in case you happen to find another water pipe!!
Look out Zoe’s boyfriend, GdS are coming to get you.

        • They go on the 12th, you will be here then and can help me with Zoe and luna as they will be your neighbours. She will be so happy to see you…. 9.15am after the school run each morning. xx
